RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY ASSUMPTION OF RISK, AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT (“AGREEMENT”)
Cycling is NOT a dangerous sport, but it can be dangerous if you do not behave appropriately – especially when riding in groups. Our Club is currently avialable for adults only. I confirm that I am over 18. I confirm that I am not suffering from any disability or medical condition, whether physical or mental, which prevents my ability to participate safely in group riding. I agree to participate in cycling events and group riding entirely at my own risk and agree that I must ride in a manner which is safe to myself and others. I am aware that when riding on a public road the function of ride leaders is only to indicate direction and that I must decide whether the movement is safe. I must rely on my own ability in recognising and reacting to all hazards. I agree that no liability whatsoever shall attach to the promoter, promoting club, organiser, ride leader, club owner, event sponsor, British Cycling or any event official or member of British Cycling in respect of any injury, loss or damage suffered by me in or by reason of the event, organised ride, other because of other member however caused. I am familiar with the Safeguarding Policies and Procedures applicable to my Home Country/Region, as well as the British Cycling Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy. I will make myself familiar with the individual responsible for welfare and safeguarding for group riding with Surrey Cycling Squad (SCS) or events, should a concern need to be raised. Club Rules and Members Responsibilities and Recommendations: You accept that by joining Surrey Cycling Squad, You agree to the following: You must be 18 years old or over to join Surrey Cycling Squad. We allow 3x demo rides for each new members. All Club Members require Annual Subscription to be allowed on our Club, Social Rides, including events and track days and any other events organised by our club (SCS). All Club Members are advised to wear our club jersey or gilet on all our club rides and organised events. We are a cycling club, and by doing so this greatly improves our on road / social image, reputation and recognition. All club members must wear a helmet during any club rides. If you are new to the Club, you have 3x months from registration date to purchase our club jersey or gilet. We limit the number of riders per group to 8x on our social rides. We may limit the numbers even further if need be due to safety concerns. Experienced ride leaders may lead to to 12x riders on our group ride with more experienced riders. If we have more people attending, additional ride leader will be assigned to split the group. As a Surrey Cycling Squad member I will comply with the Highway Code at all times. Surrey Cycling Squad recommends that all members carry emergency details at all times when on a club ride or provide details to appropriate ride leaders before each ride. All riders should be responsible for their own well being during a club ride and should be prepared for situations such as adverse weather conditions, poor lighting and any unforeseen mechanical problems. All members should also ensure that their bike is mechanical sound and safe for use. Tri-bar (TT handle bars), aero bars, fixed-wheel bikes are not permitted on our club rides. We encourage that you arrive 10 minutes before the noted start so any important information can be shared with you, like a safety brief. Be aware of the route and any re-group points. Rides leave at the nominated start time. Ride predictably and consistently, maintain a consistent speed and no sudden movements like sudden direction changes that may put others at risk. Hold lines, especially around corners. Avoid sudden or impulsive decision making. Relay (repeat) calls and hand signals promptly. This takes some time to work through the group, so relay signals as soon as you hear/see them. Point out obstacles. Leave the proper distance to the riders in front. (Roughly more than 50cm but less than a 1 meter between wheels). Never overlap wheels with the rider in front. Look forward at all times. (Unless checking, it's safe to change lanes or at junctions! Look past the rider directly in front of you to anticipate changes in pace or direction. Focus on the group, riding, and calls. If you're not capable of multitasking, prioritise riding over chatting. Always be ready to stop; cover your levers at all times in a group. When riding in pairs, ride in line with the person next to you, and directly behind the person on front of you. Handlebar to handlebar. Do not 'half-wheel.' Do your best to keep the group together. Call to "EASE UP" if you notice the group splitting or you're struggling to maintain the pace. Do not brake unless necessary, and always call out to the group when doing so. Roll up to a stop point as a group with reasonable speed but slow down gently. Stopping too abruptly is dangerous and may cause an accident behind. Slowing down very slowly and/or attempting track standing leads to a cascade down the group and makes it hard for the riders behind to slow down safely. Do not 'filter' to the front of a line of stationary traffic. Do not "jump" on red lights! Please respect and follow calls / signals from group ride leaders. Please help less-experienced riders to learn group riding techniques and calls. Make all riders feel welcome. Any behaviour or conduct that jeopardises the reputation of the club may result in membership being withdrawn. We reserve the right to suspend and withdraw your membership at any time if you don't follow our club rules or if you don't respect our members and group leaders. The club admins also have the right to refuse or withdraw your membership if you behave inappropriately. We reserve the rights to publish photos or videos from our club rides or events on our social media channels to promote our club. Don't litter. Take it home with you. I acknowledge, agree and represent that I understand the nature of cycling cctivities and that I am suitably experienced, in sufficiently good health and in proper physical condition to participate in such activity. I further acknowledge that the activity will be conducted over public rights of way and facilities open to the public and upon which the hazards of travelling are to be expected. I fully understand that cycling activities involve risks and dangers of serious bodily injury. I fully accept and assume all such risks and responsibility for losses, costs and damages that I may incur as a result of my participation in club run activities. I therefore agree that under no circumstances shall the Surrey Cycling Squad, its administrators, and organisers be liable for any such losses, costs or damages. BY COMPLETING AND SENDING THIS REGISTRATION FORM, YOU CONFIRM THAT YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THE WAIVER OF LIABILITY ASSUMPTION OF RISK INCLUDING YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS A MEMBER. YOU ALSO AGREE TO ABIDE BY ABOVE CLUB RULES AT ALL TIMES. Updated: 20.06.2023
